Lately I've come to realize that... I'm not thankful enough. So my thank you to God today is... Thank you. Our gingerbread stables worked out!
I wanted to make gingerbread houses with the kids this year instead of a pinata. I've done different versions in the past - using graham crackers for one. But I didn't feel like it was the real thing though the kids didn't complain. So I decided to do plain houses.
But this past November my youngest bro got married and I was leafing through a cake-decorating book for ideas for a wedding cake. I found a gingerbread manger - of course it was too much work but once I had seen it, I didn't want to do a 'witch' house - I wanted to do the stable! That's what Christmas is about - Baby Jesus born in a stable. Right?
On Wednesday I started out. And with lots of help from some angels with Tiechl we got everything ready for Friday. We spent hours making Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus and the star. We had to cut each piece separately with a knife. The stable took very little time in comparison.
And then on Friday we had moms and Diene come to help. We had enough helpers so each child had a partner. Twas rather... messy... but nice nevertheless!

Unfortunately, some of the stables were just not stable enough. We had underbaked them so...we ate it and one little girl will replace her stable with one of those prebaked houses from Wilton.
So... she got to have her house and eat it too.
The pattern from our stables is from 1988 Wilton yearbook. You can get it at the Wilton website.
