Okay, I'll admit it. This isn't much of a blog. Once a month should be doable, right? It's not happening... but... you never know. Actually, I'm not quite sure if I want to blog... There are so many more important things to do. Who's going to benefit from it? Really. I don't want to waste my time doing something for the sake of what? While I'm thinking about it, here are some things I've been doing.
This year our school division did something different for professional development. Instead of bringing in a speaker that would maybe only benefit a few people we set up professional learning communities (PLCs). Our professional development committee did a survey to see where interest lay and from that, created a list of topics from which we got to choose.
I joined a guided math group which turned out to be too big - an ideal PLC shouldn't be more than five people - so we split up into two smaller groups.
Our goal was simple - to explore guided math using Guided Math by Laney Sammons. We met for the second time in November and had a great day - sharing ideas, activities, resources and of course our new understandings.
We basically came to the understanding that we were doing guided math already in our classrooms but felt we needed to fine-tune what we were doing and get a better grip on it.
