Okay, I know I shouldn't be posting this picture cause it's terribly messy but ...we got it all cleaned up. In the process, we caught four mice. That was that for the mice - anyway I hope so!
After going through the boxes of costumes and dress up clothes, I was able to throw out at least half of it. Much of what I threw out wasn't of much use. However, I had to throw out some of our homemade costumes that we worked hard to sew since the mice had chewed up the threads and built nest with them.
Personally, I think I was quite brave, I didn't really run even once, I just sort of skittered around. (Tongue in cheek, how do I note that without writing it out?:) Of course, I was smart. I didn't start cleaning till I had two boys, Markus and Theron, who were glad and able to pounce on the mice. Anyway, they also took gatorloads of junk to the incinerator and burned it.
Charity and the twins, with volunteer help from Rebecca, washed all the rest of the stuff and hung it out. They filled almost all the wash-lines on the colony but I think it was worth it and so did they. They were having fun and trying on costumes as they hung them out. There was a lot of stuff they hadn't seen before.
After I gave the closet two coats of paint, Mark built shelves and a rack and now we've got a real, albeit small, costume closet, to be proud of.
